dream subjects in four parts

-
first i dreamed of huge grassy fields
and a far off castle
cradled in the arm of the mountain
and we leaped to travel
and there were many of us
dressed in royal and pastel
and yet we never reached the castle

then i dreamed of a river of light
silvery green and cool blue and touches of pure white
it flowed above a cobblestone city
as we watched from cherry red double-decked buses
as the giant clock tower chimed an unforgiving midnight
while soldiers marched to an unheard melody
that only they can hear

and then i dreamed of an underground laboratory
with chambers of stone and glass and metal
and at the heart of this cold and analyzing place
was the remnants of a great black dragon
and they were pumping its blood to the far reaches of the earth
and so even in death
the dragon was still stretching its wings

afterwards i dreamed of a hidden lake
filled with paper birds of all shapes and colors
bobbing merrily in an endless dance
"won't you make a wish?" they sang with one voice
and i was speechless
for i didn't know what to wish for
and they knew it

but i woke at the end
so these dreams
didn't really matter
did they?

Light and Dark. A Love Story.

He first saw her, laughing, with her companions. He never ventured out much, and lurked in his world, living alone, watching. Until today. She was bright. Her eyes. Her hair. Even her voice was clear and light, laughing so it sounded musical. The wind played with her skirts, enveloping her slim body until it was wrapped in diaphanous clouds. She was holding flowers in her hands, leaning in to smell the fragrance, her lips parted in a soft sigh. He started a little, catching his breath, and she saw him. What did he look like to her? A dark figure, wrapped in darkness? A young man, thrown out by his heartless family, reduced to this? She looked into his eyes, and he read them, They were full of fear, a little awe, and slight pity. He had retreated back into his forest. He did not want to be pitied. But he was lonely.
